Welness tip

Ever wonder how some people stay thin when they eat any and everything in sight while some people starve themselves eating a carrot and gain five pounds. It is one word that separates thinness from fattiness: METABOLISM.

The body’s metabolism is its ability to burn calories/fat for the function of that body. So if you are sitting on the couch, or at a desk, the body is in a state of rest which burns fewer calories. Stand up, start to move around, or exercise then the body burns more calories to maintain that level of effort and your metabolism speeds up!

Some people have a naturally fast burning metabolism keeping them thin while others have a slow metabolism keeping fat on their bodies. But, everybody can speed up their metabolism by exercising and eating the right foods. The best way to keep that metabolism high and burning calories all day is to work out in the morning. The body has been sleeping and in a state of rest for hours, so “kick start” your fat burning by exercising first thing every day. Any type of exercise done for more than twenty minutes in the morning will keep your body burning fat all day!

Best foods to eat for a fat burning fast metabolism: green tea, grapefruits, oranges, all vegetables (except white potatoes), almonds, walnuts, apples, all hot spices (pepper, cinnamon, etc.) and lean proteins (beans, nuts, etc.)

A Taste Of Synergy

A couple of months ago, Jack and I had dinner with a good friend. The main entrée was Cioppino, chosen specifically as the entire group had some history with the dish. While I felt my personal recipe was the “world’s best,” I was quickly corrected and learned that our mutual friend’s grandmother had the “world’s best” recipe. As one would imagine, I could never compete with Grandma’s recipe; however, we all enjoyed an outstanding meal together that night, shared stories, and grew and strengthened our friendship.

In the days following, I was asked to share a few of the recipes from the evening and in doing so, this recipe collection was born.

Contained within this recipe collection are some of the favorite recipes from the team at Synergy Corporate Housing and Synergy Residential Sales and Leasing. They are either a family favorite that has been passed down from generation to generation, a personal favorite gained from a favorite chef or cookbook, or in many cases, an original and unique recipe created by the individual.

The diversity of our company is contained within, as you will find traditional dishes from Macau, Mexico, Peru, the Philippines, and a number of other countries. We take great pride in the cultural diversity of our organization, and it is reflected in this compilation.

In addition to favorite recipes, you will also find a personal quote which has specific meaning to each associate. After reviewing these quotes, you will have taken a personal tour through the soul of our organization. We feel blessed to be surrounded by such great people... they truly are the “MAGIC” within the Synergy Companies.

Happy cooking!

Spotlight on Synergy

Last year, Joanne Lucila stepped into the Director of Guest Relations role, with the primary objective of ensuring each and every guest has the absolute best experience possible when staying with Synergy Corporate Housing. As Director of Guest Relations, she oversees, mentors, and develops the Guest Services team, examines all areas of the business which involve customer interaction, and works with other management peers to ensure successful guest experiences. She also has several tools to measure and track customer satisfaction and product quality, and creates custom reports for clients and senior management.

Joanne and the Guest Services team maintain a deficiency report, onto which all guest service requests are logged. The requests are sorted into one of 20 categories covering everything in the apartment from furniture and housewares to appliances and smoke detectors, and then all aspects of the service request from resolution time to guests’ satisfaction are tracked. Joanne meets with the Services team daily to review all outstanding requests, and any issues not resolved within 24 hours are escalated for Joanne’s direct involvement with the community management. This allows Joanne to keep close eye on guests who have reported an issue, as well as those communities with recurring issues or delayed resolution.

Joanne also tracks results from guest surveys. Shortly after check in, all guests are contacted and invited to complete Synergy’s online guest survey, a 36 point questionnaire asking our guests to rate Synergy and provide comments on the different elements of their stay, including arrival, unit satisfaction, customer service, issue resolution, and their overall experience, using a scale of 1–8. Those guests who complete the survey are offered their choice of a complimentary beverage from Peet’s or Starbucks. Results from all surveys are compiled and analyzed, giving Joanne a comprehensive tool for tracking and measuring guest satisfaction.

The last crucial component in the Guest Relations program is the apartment inspection, to ensure Synergy’s furnished apartments are the best available. Joanne personally inspects about ten apartments per week, and within a year’s time is able to visit every apartment in inventory, noting any deficiencies, maintenance issues, etc. — a guarantee that upon the next guest’s arrival, the apartment is once again perfect!

If you have any questions on the Synergy services platform or need any assistance, please contact Joanne Lucila at 1 800 600 1115 or jlucila@synergyhousing.com.

How to Talk to Customers Book CoverMaking
A
Great
Impression on the
Customer

The entire Synergy organization recently began reading the book How to Talk to Customers: Create a Great Impression Every Time with MAGIC by Diane Berenbaum and Tom Larkin. By adopting the MAGIC philosophy and making it an integral part of the Synergy culture, we have seen immediate impactful results — our guest survey return ratio doubled, and our overall survey scores have come up from 6 (good) to 7 (very good) just in the last six months. Our MAGIC “trick” and best practice for you today is to remember that embracing MAGIC is a choice; whatever the situation, you can choose to put your best foot forward and maintain control, or choose to become defensive and reactionary. We hope that you employ MAGIC to you and your customers’ benefit. We have, and it works!

Synergy Residential Sales And Leasing — Workshop

On April 28th the team from Synergy Residential Sales and Leasing conducted a workshop at Taleo Corporation on Real Estate Market Trends. Twenty-five Taleo associates attended and gained insight into the changing trends with four Bay Area counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Santa Clara and San Francisco.

The group quickly assessed the value of understanding trend as the data indicates that over the past four months home inventory in all four counties has been decreasing.

Timing the bottom of the market can be tricky and home buyers might want to consider the following when deciding the right time to buy:

  • Interest rates are at historical lows
  • We’re in a buyer’s market in the Bay Area
  • Government is offering a First-Time Home Buyer’s tax credit

In other words we are in a “Perfect Storm” for buying a home. It may be a long time before we encounter this again in the Bay Area.

Other topics being offered by Synergy Residential Sales and Leasing are:

  • Selling Your Home in Today’s Market
  • Buying in Today’s Market
  • Buy vs. Rent
  • REOs, Short Sales and Foreclosures
  • Credit Scores and Reports

If you are interested in scheduling a workshop for your company, please contact Jim Remedios at 877-858-6848 or JRemedios@SynergyHousing.com

In-House

Synergy Social Event

Synergy hosted another successful networking event in San Francisco at the trendy restaurant The District in April.

Over 35 residents, property personnel and clients came out to our monthly event and enjoyed a taste of San Francisco.

The Synergy Social is designed to provide our residents an opportunity to get to know each other outside of their workplace and corporate apartment.

The event “was a great opportunity to meet and socialize with the Synergy team and also to see the great Avalon apartments in San Francisco and all that it has to offer its residents. Working with the staff at Synergy as been seamless. They have been very accommodating and really taken the lead to meet the personal needs of our employees when it comes to temporary housing. I look forward to working with them again”.

— Sr. HR Business Partner, Electronics for Imaging

The next Synergy event is scheduled for Wednesday, July 22nd at Ozumo

Synergy Sponsorship

Synergy Corporate Housing sponsored the National Kidney Foundation’s Kidney Walk in San Jose on June 6, 2009. Donations raised at the event will support services for patients and their families, early prevention programs and important kidney disease research. Synergy’s Accounting Manager, Janette Moir, participated along with her daughter, family and friends.

Janette’s daughter, Maxine, had her second kidney transplant in December of 2008. After her Mom and several of her friends were tested, it was determined that Tanya Lombardi, whom Maxine met through her book club, was the best match.

The Danville Weekly covered the story and below is a quote from the article.

“Tanya knew that she was going to be the donor. You could see the energy in her; she was uplifted by the whole commitment. There was never a second look back.” Bill Lombardi, husband of Tanya Lombardi, kidney donor.

The fundraiser was a great success with donations totaling $160,000!

“Synergy Corporate Housing has generously sponsored my son’s Baseball team for the past 5 years. During this time, we have won a championship amongst other teams within the Alameda Little League. We were also victorious in the Tournament of Champions in which we played other cities within our district. This year, we are honored to represent Synergy Corporate Housing in our first year of basketball. The Synergy Corporate Housing Cyclones were fortunate enough to get to the finals and placed 2nd overall in the Alameda Youth Basketball League. We continue to thank Synergy for their support and we hope to synergize more on the field and the courts in the upcoming years!!”

Many Thanks,

Gilbert, Joyce and Angel Munoz
